SeismOz Meeting

As the AEES conference is the main forum that brings Australian seismologists together in a single event, a meeting of Australian seismologists is held just before the conference to discuss various aspects of earthquake monitoring in Australia. This is often held on the Friday morning prior to AEES conference’s midday kick-off.

In 2016, due to the concurrent Asian Seismological Commission General Assembly that starts on the Friday morning, the SeismOz meeting was held on Thursday afternoon, 24 November 2016 from 2pm-5pm, at the University of Melbourne in the Fritz Lowe Theatre (located on the ground floor of the School of Earth Sciences, McCoy Building: 253-283 Elgin St, Carlton).

This is an annual forum normally held before the start of the AEES conference, where Australian seismologists report on networks changes, any significant projects or developments, and discuss everything from education to monitoring technology. Speakers typically include representatives from Geoscience Australia, the Seismology Research CentreAuScope, and other regional earthquake observatories.
