AEES Discussion Forum moves online
From 21 Feb 2012 the AEES discussion group, formerly a member-only email-based mailing list, has moved to a Google Groups discussion forum. Member posts will now be visible to the public, with the aim of increasing public awareness of earthquake engineering issues in Australia. Members previously not on the mailing list can now view discussions, and if they wish to contribute they can apply for group membership online. We encourage members to share information and participate in discussions. The discussion group will be initially unmoderated, but if necessary controls will be put in place to ensure the integrity of the discussion group is maintained.

Col Gurley questions building performance in Christchurch (posted 29 Mar 2011)
In ChCh, many (perhaps most) URM buidings were damaged and there is probably now the political will to demolish many of them. This is perhaps, not true for, say Auckland where there are many more URMs. More...

Pacific Conference on Earthquake Engineering
The PCEE, held once every four years since 1975, has grown over time to attract earthquake engineers from throughout the Pacific region and further afield. This ninth conference in the series promises to be another important forum for the exchange of findings and experiences in mitigating the effects of earthquake and earthquake related hazards around the Pacific Rim. The chosen theme for the April 2011 conference, "Building an Earthquake Resilient Society", challenges participants to re-evaluate the requirements of a truly resilient society beyond the engineering context, and to incorporate the social, economic and human dimensions of earthquake engineering. Keynote presentations that explore aspects of the conference theme will be presented by eminent individuals in the field of Earthquake Engineering at the start of each day.
